Chelsea have released a statement claiming that they will comply with the UK government following their decision to sanctioned owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire had all his assets in the United Kingdom frozen by the government because of his ties to his country’s president Vladimir Putin.

Putin has been in the news after ordering his troops to attack Ukraine in which many lives have been lost ever since the start of the conflict.

Chelsea in a statement made available on their website explained that they will keep in touch with the UK government promising to give fans updates subsequently.

Chelsea’s Statement About Roman Abramovich’s Sanctions
“By virtue of his 100 per cent ownership of Chelsea FC plc and affiliated entities, Chelsea FC would normally be subject to the same sanctions regime as Mr Abramovich.

“However, the UK Government has issued a general licence that permits Chelsea FC to continue certain activities.”

“We will fulfill our men’s and women’s team fixtures today against Norwich and West Ham, respectively, and intend to engage in discussions with the UK Government regarding the scope of the licence.”

Chelsea’s only Source of Revenue Revealed After Sanctions on Club Owner Roman Abramovich
Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Chelsea have been reduced to relying on matchday revenue for the foreseeable future after club owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Abramovich was one of seven oligarchs who was slapped with the sanctions as his assets were frozen, effectively halting his plans to sell Chelsea.

The sanctions are also set to have significant ramifications on the day-to-day activities of Chelsea. Because of the ruling, ticket sales, merchandise sales and player transfers are all set to be halted.

Chelsea can, however still fulfil their remaining fixtures of the season thanks to a special licence, but the club will have to cope without a large chunk of their fans as a result of the sanctions.
